Life, Liberty and Gratitude

I received and email today. It was very disturbing. I am afraid as a country we have forgotten our roots and what, who we are and what America stands for. What The United States of America has always stood for: Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, right?

Here is the email I received that made me wonder if folks have forgotten what we are supposed to be about:
Subject: “Hmmmmm, I Guess I Just Don’t Understand”
Message:
Let me see if I understand all this….
IF YOU CROSS THE NORTH KOREAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU GET 12 YEARS HARD
LABOR……

IF YOU CROSS THE IRANIAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU ARE DETAINED
INDEFINITELY….

BUT, IF YOU CROSS THE U.S. BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU GET A DRIVERS
LICENSE, SOCIAL SECURITY CARD, WELFARE, FOOD STAMPS, AND FREE HEALTH
CARE?

I guess I still don’t understand…

Frankly I was shocked so this was my reply:

Thank God we don’t emulate the countries you listed here. Who do we want to be anyway? A ruthless country of prisons and prisoners?

I think I can explain away your confusion:
America is and always has been the land of the free. The the land of opportunity and the other countries mentioned are hate and fear mongers, and terrorists – we are a land of the free and they are a land of prisoners. This is all pretty simple in my mind. I think we just forget and get confused when the media goes to spinning what we stand for out of control. 🙂

Read the plaque on the Statue of Liberty:
“Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;

Here at our sea-washed, sunset hates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lighting, and her name Mother of Exiles.

From her beacon hand
Glows world-wide welcome;
Her mild eye command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips.

“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

These are the words that beckoned our ancestors to come here and set up the freedoms we are so willing to sacrifice… but for what are we sacrificing our personal liberties?
To feel secure about a job? Jobs most of us hate. Jobs we only have because we are in such extreme debit.

We have jobs to support our debt so this over burden of debit makes us scared to loose our jobs. Then we direct that fear at incoming foreigners. We need to face the fact that if we didn’t have too much debt we wouldn’t need this illusive “job security” so to speak and we wouldn’t have to live with fear of foreigners taking our jobs. Foreigners that basically do jobs we won’t do. Ah, what a spiral this way of life leads us into. Todays as of right now we actually are still allowed create our own jobs here in the United States of America… and we all came from all the other continents to do it.

Want to stop someone from coming into the country, try stopping the next credit card debit company from sinking its hooks into our citizens and allow the fruit pickers, gardeners and hard laborers to migrate in as they ALWAYS HAVE. Put a cap on arbitrary lending rates and creative lending plans that ultimately steal your real liberty: your time!

Long may our true and authentic liberty reign! Long live the Lady in the Harbor and all she stand for. Long live the American dream, the real American dream: Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all that come or dwell upon our shores!

Please remember what we really stand for here – just because we are at war with terror does not mean we are suddenly at war with every alien country, our forefathers were all from alien countries (unless you are an Native American Indian).

These are my thoughts and this is my country too.

Love, Light & Liberty,
Rusty Cline
